Professional Beep Baseball Player Joins #OrCam_DreamTeam - OrCam

Kalari is a visually impaired 36-year-old married mother of three from Chicago. She is currently considered one of the best beep baseball players in the United States, and possibly even one of the best players in the world. As a #OrCam_DreamTeam member, she will now be helping to empower people who are blind and visually impaired from around the world, help them to improve their quality of life and make their dreams come true.

Early Life and Loss of vision

Kalari was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus at the age of six. Hydrocephalus is a condition that affects the brain through pressure on the skull. This pressure occurs when cerebrospinal fluid accumulates within the brain. There are a variety of symptoms that can be experienced in this condition. Such as headaches, poor balance, and even double vision.

Despite her condition, Kalari has completed her high school diploma and even a college degree. She was determined from an early age not to let her condition hold her back from anything she wanted to achieve in life. One of Kalari’s most favorite things in life is Beep Baseball. Beep baseball is a form of baseball that has been developed specifically for people who have a visual impairment. The ball is the size of a grapefruit, and it beeps loudly throughout the duration of the game. This way, the players in the infield and even in the outfield can follow the ball after it has been hit by the batter. The pitcher is the only player on the field who is not visually impaired. The batter can swing at the ball since he hears the ball beeping louder as it approaches the mount in the air.

Kalari discovered the game at the age of nine and has been playing ever since. She currently plays on the professional beep baseball team, the Chicago Comets, and is considered one of the best players in the league. In 2003, Kalari and the Chicago Comets won the US national championship.

Kalari currently works at the Chicago Lighthouse’s UI Health Customer Care Center. The Chicago Lighthouse is an organization that helps people with low vision of all ages. The organization helps its members in a variety of ways. Such as support groups, care centers, enrichment programs, and helping them to learn life and work-related skills.

Kalari’s Passion for Beep Baseball

Kalaris’ second-biggest passion in life, after beep baseball, is writing. With a background in journalism, Kalari loves to write and to interview people. She is currently in the process of writing a book that will hopefully be coming out soon. Kalari has been chosen by OrCam Technologies to be on the #OrCam_DreamTeam with one and only legendary Soccer player, Leo Messi. The OrCam dream team is made up of twelve visually impaired sports enthusiasts and athletes from around the world. Her inspiring story and her determination to overcome the obstacles of life with low vision made her an obvious choice for the team.
